Alice in Chains Postpones Connecticut Concert Due to Drummer’s Health Scare

Alice in Chains has announced the cancellation of their concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, scheduled for Thursday night, May 8. The band made this decision abruptly. The cancellation occurred because Alice in Chains drummer experienced an emergency health scare.

Sean Kinney’s Medical Situation

In a statement shared on the band’s X account, the band announced that Sean Kinney experienced a “non-life-threatening” medical issue shortly after the soundcheck. The band expressed their sincere apologies. They stated, “We regret to inform you that due to Alice in Chains drummer emergency, we must cancel tonight’s show. We truly apologize for the inconvenience.” Fans felt understandably disappointed, but the band prioritized Kinney’s well-being.

Tour Plans Moving Forward

As of the latest updates, the band has not released any additional information regarding Kinney’s health. A spokesperson for the band has also not responded to requests for further details. The emergency involving Alice in Chains’ drummer led to the cancellation of the Connecticut performance. This concert was scheduled to be Alice in Chains’ first full show after their appearance at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in April 2024.

Despite this unexpected cancellation, the band plans to resume their tour. They are set to perform on Saturday, May 10, at the MMRBQ in Camden, New Jersey. Following that, they will take the stage at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, May 11. Additionally, Alice in Chains will participate in the final Black Sabbath concert in Birmingham, U.K., on July 5.

Exciting Upcoming Release for Fans

In related news, publisher Weldon Owen recently announced the release of a collection of journals from the late Layne Staley, the iconic frontman of Alice in Chains. The publisher will release the book titled This Angry Pen: The Lost Journals of Layne Staley on November 11. This 176-page volume will offer fans a rare glimpse into Staley’s creative world, featuring handwritten lyrics, personal poetry, original artwork, and rare photographs.

A Deep Dive into Layne Staley’s Creativity

According to Simon & Schuster, the distributor, this collection offers an unprecedented glimpse into the thoughts and emotions of the legendary frontman. For the first time, fans will have access to Staley’s previously unseen poetry and intimate notes. These reveal the mind of a musical icon who profoundly influenced a generation.

In summary, while the cancellation of the Connecticut concert due to Sean Kinney’s health issue is unfortunate, Alice in Chains remains dedicated to their tour. They continue to engage their audience with exciting new projects despite the Alice in Chains drummer emergency.
